THEME: Paul in the 8th chapter of Romans mentions that God did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all. Isaiah 53 is the Old Testament statement of that truth.
VERSE 1
Who has believed our message?
To whom has the arm of God been revealed?
Stripped of his glorious majesty
Now for a time mysteriously concealed
DESPISED, REJECTED
Full of sorrow, familiar with grief
All the world turned away from him
The Son of God could find no relief
VERSE 2
He took up our infirmities
He carried our sorrows there in our place
Smitten, afflicted by our God
Blows from the wrath of soldiers marred his face
DESPISED, REJECTED
Pierced for us, Jesus' fate their was sealed
Facing wrath, all to bring us peace
And by his lasting wounds we are healed
BRIDGE
We all, like sheep, have gone astray
And followed our own foolish way
The Lord has laid on him who paid
The reconciling price for our sin
VERSE 3
As lambs that face the slaughter
He silently welcomed death and the grave
After the suffering of his soul
He joined the host, who by his death he saved
DESPISED, REJECTED
Praises be to the Lamb who was slain
Wisdom, pow'r, strength and glory be
To Jesus Christ, the saints now proclaim
