Why we Worship

PSALM 47

Clap your hands, all peoples!
  Shout to God with loud songs of joy!
For the LORD, the Most High, is to be feared,
  a great king over all the earth.
He subdued peoples under us,
  and nations under our feet.
He chose our heritage for us,
  the pride of Jacob whom he loves.

God has gone up with a shout,
  the LORD with the sound of a trumpet.
Sing praises to God, sing praises!
  Sing praises to our King, sing praises!
For God is the King of all the earth;
  sing praises with a psalm!

Why Sing?

God reigns over the nations;
  God sits on his holy throne.
The princes of the peoples gather
  as the people of the God of Abraham.
For the shields of the earth belong to God;
  he is highly exalted!

We Believe
We believe in God Almighty, Maker of the earth and sky
All we see and all that’s hidden Is his work unceasingly
God our father’s loving kindness, With us till the day we die
Slow to anger, full of mercy,You we praise and magnify

We believe in Christ the Savior, Son of God and Son of Man
Born of Mary, preaching, healing, Crucified, yet risen again
He ascended to the Father, There in glory now to reign
And our hearts in expectation Wait the hour he comes again

We believe in God the Spirit, In our lives Emmanuel
Interceding, for us pleading, All within the Father’s will
Till the day of our redemption, Keep us faithful till the end
How we need your truth to guide us, Gracious Spirit, now descend

This Is What I Believe
Walt Harrah and John Schreiner
1992 Maranatha Music ASCAP

I believe in God the Father, Maker of heaven and earth
And in Jesus, his only Son, Born of a virgin birth
On a cross he was crucified, He descended into hell
But the third day Jesus rose again, He’s alive and all is well
(or, for my church which included the likes of Dr. Alan Gomes, I changed the lyric to read – “ON A CROSS HE WAS CRUCIFIED, AS A RANSOM IN OUR STEAD, BUT THE FATHER GAVE HIM LIFE AGAIN, RAISING JESUS FROM THE DEAD)
This is what I believe, It is written on my heart
This is what I believe, Every promise, every part
This is what I believe

I believe the Lord’s in heaven, Worshipped in majesty there
I believe he’ll come again, To meet us in the air
I believe he’s in the Church, to keep us on the way
Leading onward in the truth, to that never ending day

Immortal, Invisible
Immortal, invisible, God only wise, In light inaccessible hid from our eyes,
Most blessèd, most glorious, the Ancient of Days, Almighty, victorious, Thy great Name we praise.

Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light, Nor wanting, nor wasting, Thou rulest in might;
Thy justice, like mountains, high soaring above,
Thy clouds, which are fountains of goodness and love.

To all, life Thou givest, to both great and small; In all life Thou livest, the true life of all;
We blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree, And wither and perish—but naught changeth Thee.

Great Father of glory, pure Father of light, Thine angels adore Thee, all veiling their sight;
All praise we would render; Lord help us to see ’Tis only the splendor of light hideth Thee,

Our God, our help in ages past
Our God, our help in ages past, Our hope for years to come,
Our shelter from the stormy blast, And our eternal home.

YOU HAVE BEEN A SHELTER LORD
TO EVERY GENERATION
TO EVERY GENERATION
A SANCTUARY FROM THE STORM
TO EVERY GENERATION
TO EVERY GENERATION LORD

Under the shadow of Thy throne Thy saints have dwelt secure;
Sufficient is Thine arm alone, And our defense is sure.

Before the hills in order stood, Or earth received her frame,
From everlasting Thou art God, To endless years the same.

Thy Word commands our flesh to dust, “Return, ye sons of men:”
All nations rose from earth at first, And turn to earth again.

A thousand ages in Thy sight Are like an evening gone;
Short as the watch that ends the night Before the rising sun.

The busy tribes of flesh and blood, With all their lives and cares,
Are carried downwards by the flood, And lost in following years.

Time, like an ever rolling stream, Bears all its sons away;
They fly, forgotten, as a dream Dies at the opening day.

Like flowery fields the nations stand Pleased with the morning light;
The flowers beneath the mower’s hand Lie withering ere ‘tis night.

Our God, our help in ages past, Our hope for years to come,
Be Thou our guard while troubles last, And our eternal home.

Great is Thy faithfulness

Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father; There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not; As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be.

Great is Thy faithfulness! Great is Thy faithfulness! Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided; Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

Summer and winter and springtime and harvest, Sun, moon and stars in their courses above
Join with all nature in manifold witness To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.

Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth, Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!

And can it be?
And can it be that I should gain An interest in the Savior’s blood?
Died He for me, who caused His pain — For me, who Him to death pursued?
Amazing love! How can it be,That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?
Amazing love! How can it be, That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

’Tis mystery all: th’Immortal dies:Who can explore His strange design?
In vain the firstborn seraph tries To sound the depths of love divine.
’Tis mercy all! Let earth adore, Let angel minds inquire no more.
’Tis mercy all! Let earth adore; Let angel minds inquire no more.

He left His Father’s throne above, So free, so infinite His grace—
Emptied Himself of all but love, And bled for Adam’s helpless race:
’Tis mercy all, immense and free, For O my God, it found out me!
’Tis mercy all, immense and free, For O my God, it found out me!

Long my imprisoned spirit lay, Fast bound in sin and nature’s night;
Thine eye diffused a quickening ray—I woke, the dungeon flamed with light;
My chains fell off, my heart was free,I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.
My chains fell off, my heart was free, I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.

Still the small inward voice I hear, That whispers all my sins forgiven;
Still the atoning blood is near, That quenched the wrath of hostile Heaven.
I feel the life His wounds impart; I feel the Savior in my heart.
I feel the life His wounds impart; I feel the Savior in my heart.

No condemnation now I dread; Jesus, and all in Him, is mine;
Alive in Him, my living Head, And clothed in righteousness divine,
Bold I approach th’eternal throne, And claim the crown, through Christ my own.
Bold I approach th’eternal throne, And claim the crown, through Christ my own.

For Love’s Sake

Lord, You were rich beyond all splendor, Yet for love’s sake, became so poor.
Leaving Your throne in glad surrender, Sapphire-paved courts for stable floor.
Lord You were rich beyond all splendor, Yet for love’s sake, became so poor.

You are our God, beyond all praising, Yet for love’s sake, became a man.
Stooping so low, yet sinners raising, Heav’nwards by Your eternal plan.
You are our God, beyond all praising, Yet for love’s sake, became a man.

Lord You are love, beyond all telling , Saviour and King, we worship you.
Emmanuel, within us dwelling,, Make us and keep us pure and true.
Lord You are love beyond all telling, Saviour and King, we worship You.
