Why we Worship

PSALM 47

Clap your hands, all peoples!
  Shout to God with loud songs of joy!
For the LORD, the Most High, is to be feared,
  a great king over all the earth.
He subdued peoples under us,
  and nations under our feet.
He chose our heritage for us,
  the pride of Jacob whom he loves.

God has gone up with a shout,
  the LORD with the sound of a trumpet.
Sing praises to God, sing praises!
  Sing praises to our King, sing praises!
For God is the King of all the earth;
  sing praises with a psalm!

Why Sing?

God reigns over the nations;
  God sits on his holy throne.
The princes of the peoples gather
  as the people of the God of Abraham.
For the shields of the earth belong to God;
  he is highly exalted!

Purpose: | He is Creator God. He spoke the universe into existence. His power does not diminish with time. And that power is available to us.

Commentary: | The God of Israel give power and strength to His people.  Psalm 68:35

In the Bible, the fact that God is creator is unquestioned. God is powerful, and the universe is proof.  Who else could suspend stars in space, name them, and keep track of them?  Who else could shut of the sea behind doors, saying "this far, and no more?"

What does it take to say to the morning, "You may start your day now."  The earth takes shape like clay under a seal. Job 38:14  And what a shape! Mountain peaks, but not all the same, lakes of various sizes and shapes, terrains that vary from region to region - there is no end to God's creative energy. Behind it all, we wonder at just what there is that is too small to see, and the amazement that would bring if we only could know!

But to think on God's power is just the beginning.  The glory is that He is willing and able to exert that power in our direction, for our good.  And that is a wonderful thought, full of hope, for some of the circumstances we find ourselves in can only be resolved by the power of the God who created the universe.  Let's call on him, and he will answer us, and show us great and unsearchable things that will blow our minds.  Jeremiah 33:3
