Why we Worship

PSALM 47

Clap your hands, all peoples!
  Shout to God with loud songs of joy!
For the LORD, the Most High, is to be feared,
  a great king over all the earth.
He subdued peoples under us,
  and nations under our feet.
He chose our heritage for us,
  the pride of Jacob whom he loves.

God has gone up with a shout,
  the LORD with the sound of a trumpet.
Sing praises to God, sing praises!
  Sing praises to our King, sing praises!
For God is the King of all the earth;
  sing praises with a psalm!

Why Sing?

God reigns over the nations;
  God sits on his holy throne.
The princes of the peoples gather
  as the people of the God of Abraham.
For the shields of the earth belong to God;
  he is highly exalted!

Purpose: | Entitled GOD WITH US, this is a first-person retelling of Luke 1 and 2. Readers for the different characters of the story are needed, but staging and costuming can be kept to a bare minimum. Simplicity can work for you in this case.

Commentary: | GOD WITH US is a firs-person retelling of the Christmas story as portrayed in Luke 1 and 2, with the additional information provided in Matthew 1.

The characters are:

1.  Zechariah
2.  Elizabeth
3.  Mary
4.  Joseph
5.  The Innkeeper
6.  A young shepherd

Costuming and lighting can heighten the experience, but are not necessary. Songs where suggested allow the congregation to enter in with worship and be active participants. Carols that fit each slot are many, and can be chosen in accordance to the repertoire of the individual church.
