Why we Worship

PSALM 47

Clap your hands, all peoples!
  Shout to God with loud songs of joy!
For the LORD, the Most High, is to be feared,
  a great king over all the earth.
He subdued peoples under us,
  and nations under our feet.
He chose our heritage for us,
  the pride of Jacob whom he loves.

God has gone up with a shout,
  the LORD with the sound of a trumpet.
Sing praises to God, sing praises!
  Sing praises to our King, sing praises!
For God is the King of all the earth;
  sing praises with a psalm!

Why Sing?

God reigns over the nations;
  God sits on his holy throne.
The princes of the peoples gather
  as the people of the God of Abraham.
For the shields of the earth belong to God;
  he is highly exalted!

Purpose: | Right now, pluralism is king. When it comes to gods, come one, come all. But that will not always be so. Someday, the name Jesus will be the only name on the lips of every single person alive. The "He" in HE IS LORD will be Jesus! Bring on that day!

Commentary: | The eyes of faith are 20-20.  Looking around at this world, the chances of Jesus being the one topic of conversation seem remote, and farfetched, even. But the Word of God never lets up in the hope of our Lord Jesus being King of kings and Lord of lords.  Psalm 66 starts off all excited.  What's all the fuss about?  All the earth bows down to you; they sing praise to you, they sing praise to your name. (4)  In Psalm 86: 9 and 10 we hear that all the nations you have made will come and worship before you, O Lord; they will bring glory to your name.  For you are great and do marvelous deeds; YOU ALONE ARE GOD!  Take heart, Christian friend.  Our best days are ahead, for Jesus will come and rule and reign, and we will rule at his side.  What a day that will be!
