Why we Worship

PSALM 47

Clap your hands, all peoples!
  Shout to God with loud songs of joy!
For the LORD, the Most High, is to be feared,
  a great king over all the earth.
He subdued peoples under us,
  and nations under our feet.
He chose our heritage for us,
  the pride of Jacob whom he loves.

God has gone up with a shout,
  the LORD with the sound of a trumpet.
Sing praises to God, sing praises!
  Sing praises to our King, sing praises!
For God is the King of all the earth;
  sing praises with a psalm!

Why Sing?

God reigns over the nations;
  God sits on his holy throne.
The princes of the peoples gather
  as the people of the God of Abraham.
For the shields of the earth belong to God;
  he is highly exalted!

Purpose: | For the Christian, gender is founded in a creative God who brought glory to Himself by creating both male and female. Men display His glory one way, and women an entirely different way. Let's celebrate the God of variety.

Commentary: | Apparently there are millions of varieties of flowers.  Millions!  God not only loves flowers, he also loves variety.  Think of any category, be it fish or horses or spiders, or humans, and you quickly realize that while some things stay constant (horses have four legs, not three) there is wide difference within the species.

We don't only have day, we have day and night.  We have clear whether, we have stormy whether.  The terrain differs greatly around the world. Not all mountains are alike.  Some lakes are like oceans, others are mere puddles.

God loves variety.  And when he made man in his image, he decided that just male would not do.  And when he made female, there was completeness, satisfaction, and the conclusion by God that it was "very good."

As much as we like sameness (we get stuck on flavors of ice cream) God has an endless imagination that draws us ever into difference.  Genesis 1 and 2 help us revel in our creative God.  Let's worship him for his creative power.
