Commentary: |
For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful. So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my understanding; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my understanding. 1 Corinthians 14:14-15
Worship in the church has regrettably bowed down before the idol of technique. The content of songs has been homogenized, as images have been asked to assume the role of words, and as a result understanding has become fuzzy.
Those subjective twins of emotion and feeling have become the criteria for effectiveness, as the objectivity of substance has been unceremoniously relegated to the back of the worship bus.
Style has won out over substance. Song is now a synonym for worship. MORE THAN A SONG is intended to find a way that both the heart and the mind might sit side by side on that bus. May the Lord bless you as you read.
