Why we Worship

PSALM 47

Clap your hands, all peoples!
  Shout to God with loud songs of joy!
For the LORD, the Most High, is to be feared,
  a great king over all the earth.
He subdued peoples under us,
  and nations under our feet.
He chose our heritage for us,
  the pride of Jacob whom he loves.

God has gone up with a shout,
  the LORD with the sound of a trumpet.
Sing praises to God, sing praises!
  Sing praises to our King, sing praises!
For God is the King of all the earth;
  sing praises with a psalm!

Why Sing?

God reigns over the nations;
  God sits on his holy throne.
The princes of the peoples gather
  as the people of the God of Abraham.
For the shields of the earth belong to God;
  he is highly exalted!

Purpose: | There are so many places to look for satisfaction, and only one place in which that satisfaction is guaranteed. And that is in Jesus, our Rock and our Salvation.

Commentary: | Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.  Matthew 11:28

God complained to the prophet Jeremiah about Israel...."they have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water."  Jeremiah 2:13

Nothing much has changed, has it?  We still look for manmade solutions to God-sized problems.  We still think we know best. God is like the fire extinguisher at best - you know - BREAK GLASS IN CASE OF EMERGENCY!"

But Jesus offered rest, with no fine print.  In our stressed out lives, let's take him up on his offer, and run to him.  Let's throw ourselves at his feet, and let him reorder our lives.  Our God is a fountain, and before long, we will be totally sold on his water, exclaiming, "All my fountains are in you." Psalm 87:7
