Why we Worship

PSALM 47

Clap your hands, all peoples!
  Shout to God with loud songs of joy!
For the LORD, the Most High, is to be feared,
  a great king over all the earth.
He subdued peoples under us,
  and nations under our feet.
He chose our heritage for us,
  the pride of Jacob whom he loves.

God has gone up with a shout,
  the LORD with the sound of a trumpet.
Sing praises to God, sing praises!
  Sing praises to our King, sing praises!
For God is the King of all the earth;
  sing praises with a psalm!

Why Sing?

God reigns over the nations;
  God sits on his holy throne.
The princes of the peoples gather
  as the people of the God of Abraham.
For the shields of the earth belong to God;
  he is highly exalted!

Purpose: | God has bound all men over to disobedience, so that he may have mercy on them all. Romans 11:32 It will take all eternity to begin to unravel the truth behind this verse. To him be the glory forever! Amen. Romans 11:36

Commentary: | Paul was a smart guy, but to unravel the purposes of God, to grasp the love that is beyond comprehension, to wrestle with a finite mind the infinite truth of mercy that our loving Father displays - Paul was no match.  He just threw up his hands and broke out into a doxology:

O the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!

Who has known the mind of the Lord?

Or who has been his counselor?

Who has ever given to God that God should repay him?

For from him and through him and to him are all things.

To him be the glory forever! Amen. Romans 11:33-36
