Our church believes in reading the books we preach out loud, publicly, before the sermons on that particular book begin. With a book the size of Isaiah, that presents a challenge, to say the least. It's not possible to read it in one sitting - our modern minds drift after a couple of chapters. Not to mention, we don't understand prophetic literature very well.
Is that God speaking, or the prophet, or both....will that be fulfilled now or later, or both....who are those countries that are on God's hit list....and speaking of God, He doesn't seem very nice.....this sure skips around a lot....
This service on the Kingdom of God is meant to encourage the worshipper that even though we see everything around us being shaken, we belong to a Kingdom that is unshakable. It is eternal, and incapable of suffering a political coup, or of encountering a catastrophic event that undoes its moorings. Its future is forever, you can bank on it. The unshakable kingdom is the one thing we can know for sure. And that hope in the gasoline tank of our faith will keep us going until Christ returns. It has that kind of power.
This service contains a fifteen minute portion of Isaiah, which could be substituted out or shortened. But the contrast of kingdoms that God is about to destroy, compared to the Kingdom that He is establishing is what brings our hope alive and encourages our faith.
