Why we Worship

PSALM 47

Clap your hands, all peoples!
  Shout to God with loud songs of joy!
For the LORD, the Most High, is to be feared,
  a great king over all the earth.
He subdued peoples under us,
  and nations under our feet.
He chose our heritage for us,
  the pride of Jacob whom he loves.

God has gone up with a shout,
  the LORD with the sound of a trumpet.
Sing praises to God, sing praises!
  Sing praises to our King, sing praises!
For God is the King of all the earth;
  sing praises with a psalm!

Why Sing?

God reigns over the nations;
  God sits on his holy throne.
The princes of the peoples gather
  as the people of the God of Abraham.
For the shields of the earth belong to God;
  he is highly exalted!

Purpose: | These four words define what it means to be a sold out follower of the Lord Jesus. The adgenda of Jesus becomes our blueprint for living. And strangely, in "losing" our life, we find it. Instead of misery, we find delight and satisfaction.

Commentary: | "You and I have need of the strongest spell that can be found to wake us from the evil enchantment of worldliness."          C.S. Lewis THE WEIGHT OF GLORY

“The place for the ship (the Church) is in the sea (the world), but God help the ship if the sea gets into it.” D. L. Moody, quoted in HOT-TUB RELIGION, page 83

The reason why Christians are so loath to exchange this world for a better is because they have more sense than faith; they see what they enjoy; they do but hope for what is to come. Anne Bradstreet 1612-1672

When Jesus said that we could not love both God and mammon, he was telling us that a choice had to be made.  It was not possible to have both.  But God is infinitely good.  How cynical would we have to be to think that he intended to "spoil our fun" and make us love Him instead of this world?  Is it not possible that to love God wholeheartedly is to enter into the greatest of all possible joys?  And if that is true, then what are we waiting for?
