Why we Worship

PSALM 47

Clap your hands, all peoples!
  Shout to God with loud songs of joy!
For the LORD, the Most High, is to be feared,
  a great king over all the earth.
He subdued peoples under us,
  and nations under our feet.
He chose our heritage for us,
  the pride of Jacob whom he loves.

God has gone up with a shout,
  the LORD with the sound of a trumpet.
Sing praises to God, sing praises!
  Sing praises to our King, sing praises!
For God is the King of all the earth;
  sing praises with a psalm!

Why Sing?

God reigns over the nations;
  God sits on his holy throne.
The princes of the peoples gather
  as the people of the God of Abraham.
For the shields of the earth belong to God;
  he is highly exalted!

Purpose: | "No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God." JESUS Luke 9:62

Commentary: | Hedging our bets, keeping our options open, and 90 day risk free trials are not to be part of the Christian experience.  We are told that when we lose our life, we find it in Christ. Faith is exhibited as we trust these words and let go of all other interests.

We are told to seek as first priority the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and that the rest of life will fall in line as God wills and determines.  This would represent wholehearted devotion, for it means that God and his purposes are truly what we care about.  And our schedule and our check book reflect that.

The fact is, we do put our hand to the plow, and we do at times look longingly back at what was, or what might have been. But God is gracious and merciful, and gently regains our attention, calling us back to Himself, showing us how wonderful he is, and reminding us that he is committed to finishing what He has begun in us.

And with fresh perspective, we cast off our earthly idols once again, and with a lighter load, we run to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.
