Why we Worship

PSALM 47

Clap your hands, all peoples!
  Shout to God with loud songs of joy!
For the LORD, the Most High, is to be feared,
  a great king over all the earth.
He subdued peoples under us,
  and nations under our feet.
He chose our heritage for us,
  the pride of Jacob whom he loves.

God has gone up with a shout,
  the LORD with the sound of a trumpet.
Sing praises to God, sing praises!
  Sing praises to our King, sing praises!
For God is the King of all the earth;
  sing praises with a psalm!

Why Sing?

God reigns over the nations;
  God sits on his holy throne.
The princes of the peoples gather
  as the people of the God of Abraham.
For the shields of the earth belong to God;
  he is highly exalted!

THEME: Gathered believers in worship have every right to expect great things from God. This song helps to express such desires, and place them before a gracious, prayer-hearing God.

Lyrics | Description

Brethren we have met to worship
And adore the Lord our God
Let us pray in faith believing
Yielding to his precious Word
All is vain unless the Spirit
Of the Holy One comes down
Oh to taste that holy manna
May it here by faith abound

How we need a word from heaven
And the grace to heed it well
Telling us the gospel story
Warning us of death and hell
Spirit give us ears to listen
Loving truth and hating sin
Turning from what holds us captive
Work a holiness within

Thank you for the Holy Scriptures
Used of God to make us wise
Teaching, shaping, always leading
Onward to that heavenly prize
Thank you for the Word incarnate
Christ in us our guarantee
Of an everlasting glory
Where with him we'll ever be
