Why we Worship

PSALM 47

Clap your hands, all peoples!
  Shout to God with loud songs of joy!
For the LORD, the Most High, is to be feared,
  a great king over all the earth.
He subdued peoples under us,
  and nations under our feet.
He chose our heritage for us,
  the pride of Jacob whom he loves.

God has gone up with a shout,
  the LORD with the sound of a trumpet.
Sing praises to God, sing praises!
  Sing praises to our King, sing praises!
For God is the King of all the earth;
  sing praises with a psalm!

Why Sing?

God reigns over the nations;
  God sits on his holy throne.
The princes of the peoples gather
  as the people of the God of Abraham.
For the shields of the earth belong to God;
  he is highly exalted!

Purpose: | The giving of thanks, when pointed Godward, brings a smile to the face of our God. This service utilizes Psalm 107, as a way to stir up our hearts to recall the faithfulness of God.

Commentary: |

If we are faithless, He will remain faithful, for He cannot disown Himself.  1 Timothy 2:13

God can be counted on to keep His word.  He doesn't lose interest, change His mind or priorities. He doesn't grow jaded or cynical as the centuries pass.  He is still slow to anger, still compassionate. He still pays attention to the smallest details of our lives, rescuing us whenever we call. He dotes on us, He delights in us.  He disciplines us, so that we can experience more of Him and share in His holiness.  He lavishes grace on us, and He gives us as much of the Holy Spirit as we ask for.  Who would not worship a God like this, by giving Him thanks?
